Outriders Crowd

Built from scratch.
In a polarized moment.

In 2017, as Poland's political landscape was fracturing and global news was disappearing from local airwaves, Jakub Górnicki and Anna Górnicka launched a crowdfunding campaign with one idea: Polish audiences deserved better journalism about the world. 639 people agreed.

Outriders became a non-profit newsroom, a newsletter, a podcast, a festival, a journalist conference, an interactive studio, and finally — a physical space in Warsaw. It was never just one thing. That was the point.

"The skillful combination of technology and journalistic craft has become Outriders' trademark — working not only for stories about dramatic events like war or protests in Belarus. Interactive press materials, VR technology, a podcast, a club and a festival all show that for the creators of Outriders, stories about the contemporary world are paramount, and new technologies are the means that, when properly used, help reach audiences."
— Paszport Polityki 2022, jury citation

Journalism + Art

We called it Artistic Journalism. Reporting as immersive, physical, emotional experience. Not metrics. Not clicks. Friction.

Newsletter-first

While others chased platforms, we built a direct relationship with 45,000 readers. 30% open rate. NYU's Membership Puzzle and GIJN both studied how we did it.

Field, not studio

The first episode of our podcast was recorded in Kyiv, three days after Russia's full-scale invasion. We were there for almost two months.
