Moldova: drone found and warhead neutralised

What happened

On 23 October 2026, a UAV violated Moldovan airspace and crashed at Chiștelnița in Telenești district. The defence ministry reported detecting entry at 13:59 from the direction of Verhnia Slobidka in Ukraine towards Frunzeuca on the Transnistrian sector. Tracking was lost at 14:10 near Pepeni; after brief reacquisition, the aircraft disappeared at 14:12 near Meșeni. A resident subsequently reported finding a drone within 100 metres of a house. Police initially reported no casualties. The defence ministry links this flight to the discovery. Tracking times do not establish the precise crash time. The operator and intended destination remain undetermined; the device model alone does not establish Russian tasking or a deliberate attack on Moldova.
