What happened

At about 09:38 on 5 October 2026, a projectile fell near the Palanca crossing, ricocheted off the ground and struck a bus parked near the barrier. According to preliminary information from Moldova’s Border Police, it damaged the bus and control booth; one officer was lightly injured and no other casualties were reported. Crossing operations were suspended and Border Police confirmed their resumption on 5 October. The exact reopening time and suspension duration remain undetermined. Border Police said the injured officer was stable and out of danger; on 7 October the interior minister said he remained in hospital in a stable condition. Border Police describe the incident as a consequence of Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure without establishing the projectile’s specific type, model or operator. The bus has not been established as a target. This is a new event, separate from the flight over Palanca on 3 October. No verified coordinates are available; the entry has no map point.
