arson: JFG Composites plant, Kasprowicza street, Lublin (2026-08-30)
/ date of the event
What happened
On 30 August 2026 a large fire destroyed the warehouse and production hall and part of the office section of the JFG Composites plant on Kasprowicza street in Lublin, a maker of composite parts for aviation and a sub-supplier to Leonardo, owner of PZL-Świdnik; the owner's preliminary estimate of the loss was about 5 million euros. The Lublin Regional Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation under article 163 §1(1) of the criminal code (causing a fire endangering many lives or property on a large scale); the site inspection with a fire expert begun on 31 August was suspended because the structure threatened to collapse. Prosecutors are examining deliberate arson as well as technical failure or spontaneous causes and, at this preliminary stage, neither confirm nor rule out any of them. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on 2 September that for Lublin there was no such evidence as in Skarżysko-Kamienna, but given the nature of the production deliberate arson could not be ruled out; Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said there was no basis to call the fire sabotage or to link it to the Skarżysko fire. The cause remains unestablished and nobody has named a perpetrator.
