airspace incident: Near Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă District (2026-08-09)
/ date of the event
What happened
A Russian drone crashed and exploded near the village of Crocmaz; the blast broke windows in several houses and started a vegetation fire, causing damage within 800 metres. Preliminary reports indicated it may have been an S8000 Banderol cruise missile, the first of its kind in Moldova; the identification remains preliminary. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan condemned the war, Moldova recalled its ambassador from Moscow for consultations, and the Russian embassy accused Chișinău of using the incident to worsen relations.
The word "Russian" in this description comes from the source's account of where the object was made or what type it is. It is not a finding about who sent it or on whose orders. This record carries no assessment of responsibility: see the attribution band below.
