airspace incident: Field near the Kardam border crossing, Dobrich Province (entered from Romania) (2026-08-08)
/ date of the event
What happened
Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced that a drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania and exploded in a field near the Kardam border crossing, 100 m from the border, 200 m from a compressor station in Romania and 1,000 m from a second compressor on the Trans-Balkan pipeline. There were no casualties and no damage, and neither country detected the drone on radar. A preliminary analysis of the debris pointed to a Ukrainian Maya decoy drone; Ukraine denied deliberately directing any such device towards Bulgaria.
