airspace incident: Rēzekne (2026-05-07)
/ date of the event
What happened
An undetermined number of drones entered Latvian airspace from Russia; one hit an oil storage depot at Rēzekne, setting it on fire and damaging four empty tanks, and another crashed elsewhere. French military aircraft were scrambled. The Russian defence ministry claimed Ukraine had used Latvian airspace, while the Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said the drones had ended up over Latvia because of Russian electronic warfare.
The word "Russian" in this description comes from the source's account of where the object was made or what type it is. It is not a finding about who sent it or on whose orders. This record carries no assessment of responsibility: see the attribution band below.
