What happened
On 20 March at about 16:00 the sea washed an uncrewed surface vessel onto the beach in the Yüceler neighbourhood of Ünye; residents spotted it and the gendarmerie secured the area. According to the Ordu governorate, on 21 March at about 14:00 a team of the Istanbul Underwater Defence Group (SAS) examined the vessel, judged it active and loaded with munitions, and destroyed it in a controlled detonation about 4 km offshore. Defense News and the Turkish portal haber.aero identified it as an AEGIR-W made by the US company Sierra Nevada Corporation; the governorate gave no type. Who operated the vessel and where it came from has not been established; the country where the equipment was made says nothing about the operator.
