airspace incident: Polish airspace along the border with Belarus (2025-12-25)

/ date of the event

What happened

According to the National Security Bureau, several dozen objects, four of them identified as smuggling balloons, entered Polish airspace from Belarus overnight. Polish officials called it "a provocation disguised as a smuggling operation". In a separate incident, a Russian reconnaissance aircraft flying close to Polish airspace was intercepted over the Baltic by Polish fighters.

The word "Russian" in this description comes from the source's account of where the object was made or what type it is. It is not a finding about who sent it or on whose orders. This record carries no assessment of responsibility: see the attribution band below.
