On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, 5 to 6 June 2024, a Colombian national entered the Klíčov bus garages of Prague's transport operator DPP and set buses alight after pouring engine oil and petrol on their fronts; he filmed the act on his phone. Depot staff put the fire out with hand equipment before it spread; the damage was put at about 200,000 crowns and the court later awarded about 115,000 crowns in compensation. Nobody was hurt. The perpetrator was detained on Saturday 8 June. On 10 June 2024, after a meeting of the State Security Council, Prime Minister Petr Fiala spoke of a suspicion that the attack had been organised and financed from Russia. On 9 June 2025 the Prague Municipal Court, approving a plea agreement, sentenced the perpetrator to eight years for a terrorist attack and the preparation of another; the prosecutor said then that the evidence did not allow a finding that the person who ordered it came from the Russian Federation. On 15 September 2026 the US Department of Justice charged a former colonel of Russian intelligence, an FSB officer and three intermediaries with financing a network one member of which coordinated an attack in Prague in June 2024; the indictment does not name the depot.
Responsibility and limits of the evidence
officially attributed
A court or a competent state body has attributed it. That is not the same as a proven attack: an indictment is an allegation, not a verdict.
Named party: a network financed by Russian intelligence services (per the US Department of Justice indictment)
B - official attribution by a state body
Departament Sprawiedliwości USA (Southern District of New York) / 2026-09-15 / carrying out the act
The indictment charges a former colonel of Russian intelligence, an FSB officer and three recruiters with conspiring to finance terrorism; among the acts described, one defendant in June 2024 coordinated an attack in Prague by sending a participant potential targets and arranging his travel. The indictment names neither the Klíčov depot nor the man convicted in Czechia; it is a prosecutor's allegation, not a verdict.
Premier Czech Petr Fiala po posiedzeniu Rady Bezpieczeństwa Państwa / 2024-06-10 / carrying out the act
The government said there was a suspicion that the attack had been organised and financed from Russia as part of hybrid warfare; the prime minister called it probable, not established. A year later, at sentencing, the prosecutor said the evidence did not allow a finding that the person who ordered it came from the Russian Federation.
