On the night of 13 to 14 May 2024 red hands were stencilled onto the Wall of the Righteous at the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris. That night the perpetrators made more than 500 such marks across the city, 35 of them on the memorial itself. A Paris court convicted four Bulgarian nationals of aggravated criminal damage and criminal conspiracy. Nobody was hurt.

Direction générale de la sécurité intérieure (DGSI) / 2025-10-31 / carrying out the act
French counter-intelligence assesses that the operation bears the hallmarks of Russian hybrid interference. In convicting the perpetrators the court spoke of a "concerted and hostile operation" in "a context of interference", but did not establish Russian direction. Convicting those who carried it out and establishing who ordered it are two different things.
