On 14 January 2023, the day of mass Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, a Border Police patrol in the Larga sector of Briceni district found missile debris. The interior ministry said a warhead holding about 80 kg of explosive was detected in the debris; on 15 January engineers of the interior ministry and the National Army destroyed it on site and a 1.5 km radius was searched. The ministry called it the third case of missile debris from the Russian bombardment of Ukraine on Moldovan territory. On 1 February 2023 minister Ana Revenco told the government that the elements found near Briceni and in the Larga sector were fragments of the upper stage of an S-300 system missile and that their origin had not been established. No casualties were reported.
